Polynesian Cultural Center

The Polynesian Cultural Center is a must go attraction for anyone visiting Oahu! Our time there was a complete, whole day of interactive entertainment, learning and great food.

Entrance to the PCC

PCC features 6 island nations of Tonga, Tahiti, Samoa, Aotearoa, Fiji and Hawaii. Each has a set of activities to explore the culture of each location. We highly recommend the Ali'i Lu'au Package; for the extra $50 over the Gateway Buffet Package; you get a more elevated dining experience, in addition, a guided group tour which ensures you have an organized experience to visit every nation.

The staff were excellent - very friendly, professional and passionate. The majority of the staff were full-time BYU-Hawaii students and emphasized that our visit as customers help support their education.

If you’re taking public transit exclusively, note there is access to and from the PCC via TheBus. We found that this was the better option for us as it was both the more economical and flexibility of going at our time. Take the '60' Bus route which will bring you straight from Honolulu to the PCC in an hour and a half. Please be mindful of the longer gaps in waiting for next buses during the later hours into the evening (up to an hour).

The Polynesian Cultural Center’s Luau buffet was delicious and entertaining; beyond our expectations. The seating was in an open outdoor environment with a stage where there was a royal celebration performance of their cultural heritage. We were seated at the Hale 'Ohana location; one of the two Luau locations in the PCC.

The Menu at the PCC Luau Buffet

There was a presentation of the imu - an underground oven, which is how they cook their pig. The open concept venue was very nice with waterfalls and gardens. You’re welcomed with a flower lei greeting and a photograph for a digital souvenir.

Delicious pig!

Prior to purchasing our tickets, we were debating on whether to go for the ‘Gateway Buffet Package’ or the ‘Ali’i Luau Package’ as the difference in pricing was an additional $50 per person. We were really happy that we went with the Luau option as it was such fun to watch the presentations and having the traditional dishes that were not available at the Gateway Buffet.

The food was delicious and traditional to Hawaii. We loved the quality of the ingredients of the dishes and the variety of food. Our only negative critique is that they did not restock the food enough to the point where certain dishes were completely unavailable at the latter part of the buffet. Our favourites were: Pulehu Broccolini, Uala Hasselback, Poke, Crispy Garlic Shrimp, Imu Pua’a (stone-fired whole pig), and the cheesecake.
