Royal Caribbean - St. Maarten Island Tour (Excursion Code: SMYCA)

This lower cost excursion was well worth it. St. Maarten is a country shared by the Dutch and French. This excursion goes through the key landmarks in a 3 hour scenic trip which was great as it still left plenty time for us to do our own foot exploration. We had times at the stops to take pictures and one longer stop for 30-45 minutes at the French capital, Marigot. The bus driver -- who was also the tour guide, provided a great detail of history and some fun facts of places we saw.

We recommend you plan your trip at Marigot and identify what you want to see/do as you only have a short time. It would have been nice if they had provided more time to explore downtown Marigot more. As foodies, we were naturally drawn to the French bakery which we highly recommend called 'Chez Fernand la French Bakery', they have a great selection of fresh pastries at fair prices.

Overall, this was an enjoyable excursion, low intensity and mainly a scenic trip for photo opportunities. The length of this excursion also allowed us to venture on our own before and after the trip. The price is fair and we would recommend it to those who are new to St. Maarten and want a more relaxed excursion.

Look Out Point

There was quite a bit of traffic on the way back to the ship with the lack of lanes but that was no concern to us as we enjoyed the views. We still had time to walk Philipsburg's boardwalk and dine locally before boarding the ship. Pro Tip: The cruise ship will not leave you stranded when you book Royal Caribbean partnered excursions even if the excursion is late for the ship departure time.
