Diamond Head State Monument

Diamond Head is located near the eastern edge of Waikiki’s coastline. This giant crater was formed about 300,000 years ago and is now a popular destination for its hiking trail and majestic views.

It takes approximately an hour and a half to get to the top and back down again. When we had done our route plan to get to Diamond Head, we went with the public transit route with ‘TheBus’.

Beautiful views from the peak

Unfortunately, at the time of our research we noticed that Google Maps stated there was no route that went from Honolulu to Diamond Head. This is not true! You can use Google Maps to a destination close to Diamond Head until you get a bus route and walk the short remainder.

It takes around 15 minutes to walk from the closest Bus stop to the visitors centre, and you get to walk through a giant tunnel! This budget friendly option is a great way to get the best view of Waikiki and Honolulu!
